20.6.2018 JS Massage and Bioptron Light Therapy in Action in the Spine Center in Zurich
Dr Rischke is a renowned expert in Spinal Surgery and the repair of spinal
disc damage. He is an expert in the field and unique with his skills in Europe.
To my surprise he also has been using Bioptron light therapy in his practice
with success in his patients. He uses Bioptron light therapy in the recovery
after spinal surgery, but for wound healing and pain relief.
Dr Rischke has a private clinic at high standard for a lot of international
patients. I was able to speak with both Dr Rischke and some of his patients
about their disease, their progression and now the surgery.
It was both inspiring and touching stories, and I was able to actively observe
the recovery of 2 of his patients so far. I am amazed be the surgical skills,
as well as the level of perfection, and more importantly I was able to support
patients in their recovery through massage and light therapy therafter. I am
happy to help people and I am specifically excited about the progress
patients made in such a short time with only a few treatments from me.
I am looking forward to the future collaboration with Dr Rischke, and hope
to support more patients with massage and light therapy. I have a nice set
up in the clinic there at very high standard, and hope to actively support more
patients after intervertebral disc prostheses of the cervical and lumbar spine.
I am active in the community working with experts in the field, who use my services as complementary therapy to their already multifaceted treatment plans. If you also want to try my services, please do not hesitate to contact me.

30.6.2018 Bioptron and Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
I have seen a lot of my clients with painful elbows, so I decided to write a little bit more about this condition and how I could help people affected with tennis elbow. Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a condition in which the outer part of the elbow becomes painful. Onset of symptoms is generally gradual. Symptoms associated with tennis elbow include, but are not limited to: radiating pain from the outside of the elbow to the forearm and wrist, pain during extension of wrist, weakness of the forearm, a painful grip while shaking hands or turning a doorknob.
It is due to excessive use of the muscles of the back of the forearm. Typically this occurs as a result of work or sports classically racquet sports (e.g. tennis). Tennis elbow is a type of repetitive strain injury resulting from tendon overuse and failed healing of the tendon. A Golfer's elbow is a similar condition but that affects the inside of the elbow instead. The diagnosis is typically based on the symptoms with medical imaging used to rule out other potential causes.
Treatment involves decreasing activities that bring on the symptoms together with physical therapy, stabilising devices (orthontic devices), potential pain medication and surgery. Many people get better within one to two years with some form of therapy.
About 2% of people are affected. Those 30 to 50 years old are most commonly affected. In tennis players, about 39.7% have reported current or previous problems with their elbow. Less than one quarter (24%) of these athletes under the age of 50 reported that the tennis elbow symptoms were "severe" and "disabling," while 42% were over the age of 50. More women (36%) than men (24%) considered their symptoms severe and disabling.
In 2005, a research group (Stasinopoulos, 2005) found that Bioptron light therapy reduces pain and increases function and strength in patients with tennis elbow. The patients received Bioptron treatment at 2 points on the elbow for 6 min each, 3x per week for a total of 4 weeks. Interestingly, these patients were unsuccessfully with pharmacological intervention, physiotherapy and injections prior to trying Bioptron, similar to what I have seen in practice. They compared these findings to another group of patients receiving low level laser therapy and found similar effects, but Bioptron is much easier and safer to use. Further, Bioptron light therapy does not need to be applied by a specialist and can be done in the patients own home, so for many people it is a lot more cost effective and convenient than other forms of therapy. Later one, the same research group (Stasinopoulos & Stasinopoulos, 2006) also found that a supervised exercise program is also very effective in treating tennis elbow, but that the conventional forms of physiotherapy are not necessarily superior to the use of Bioptron.
Therefore, Bioptron has been studied in clinical setting and shown to be effective in patients with tennis elbow. The results are relatively quick, with 3 treatments per week for 4 weeks being sufficient to cause changes. I am looking forward to help my patients who suffer tennis elbow with this gentle form of therapy. Togehter with my manual therapy, this will be the ideal treatment for clients affected.

22.9.2018 JSMassage treatments at International Canoe Sprint Race 2018,
Rapperswil – Jona.
I’ve recently been a part of a very interesting International Canoe Sprint Race 2018 in Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland.
Most of my clients consisted of athletes and coaches from many international teams, but also their supporters.
Apart from enjoying my massage, my clients were able to try out the most modern recovery equipment (Game Ready & Recovery pump), used at the highest levels of competition (i.e. NBA, NFL, UK Premiership).
As always, my treatments were accompanies by Bioptron Light Therapy, which received a lot of interest, not only from the athletes and supporters, but also the event’s First Aid team.
It started off relatively steady but as the races went on and muscle tiredness started to kick in, my massage bed became a busy place. Luckily, I like being busy! Most of my work focused on muscle recovery, but also older injuries and posture problems causing back, neck and shoulder pain.
If you would like JSMassage to help out at your (amateur or professional) event, or would like to try out my classical or sports massage and light therapy sessions, please don’t hesitate to contact me: [email protected]
